Mumbai Navi Metro to Open Soon: Belapur-Kharghar Stretch CMRS Certificate to be Obtained by CIDCO

The infrastructural project Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 is eventually scheduled to be put into service in the next months. The Commission of Railway Safety (CMRS) accreditation for the Belapur-Kharghar stretch is anticipated to be obtained by the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO), the project’s nodal agency, in the near future. In October 2021, the Metro line’s Kharghar-Pendhar section already obtained CMRS certification.

There are 11 stations along the 11.1-kilometer Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 from Belapur to Pendhar, including Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Central Park, and Pendhar Terminal. The lack of specialists and contractors caused a delay in the project, which has been under construction since 2011. However, after CIDCO hired well-known businesses, the work accelerated in 2017.

Officials claim that CIDCO encouraged government departments to submit bids for the Metro’s construction, operations, and maintenance. The Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 operations were given to MahaMetro after the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) indicated its willingness to handle just the engineering work.

For a contract worth roughly Rs 500 crore, MahaMetro was given the go-ahead to engage engineering specialists and handle operations and maintenance for the following ten years. The Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 would be operated and collected by MahaMetro in exchange for CIDCO paying Rs 50 crore in maintenance fees each year.

During peak hours, CIDCO intends to schedule Metro line services at intervals of 15 minutes. The project has two traction sub-stations at Panchanand and Kharghar as well as a maintenance depot at Taloja. The remaining construction on Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 will be done when Line 1 of the Navi Mumbai Metro begins operating.

Additionally, CIDCO plans to deploy the Neo-Metro, a tram bus system with rubber tires and overhead electric traction. When compared to a traditional Metro rail system, the Neo-Metro is a cost-effective transportation system with fewer system needs.

In contrast to the Mumbai Metro, which has over a lakh riders, the Navi Mumbai Metro is only anticipated to have 8,000 riders during peak hours. The Neo-Metro is anticipated to cost Rs 2,000 crore, compared to Rs 9,600 crore for the regular metro.

For the Neo-Metro, CIDCO has already created comprehensive project papers and a Rs 1,000 crore credit line. Soon, the project will call for bids, and contractors will be chosen.

An essential component of the city’s infrastructure, the Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 provides a much-needed public transport system. Residents may anticipate a secure, dependable, and effective method of transportation that will connect them to various areas of the city with its impending opening.
